Near Sendai ist a wonderful limestone bay which was washed out during the eons of time. Driving there with a small boat is a lovely impression
Especially the old way of fishing is impressive
Japanese are very spirtual and therefore you find temples everywhere and usually these are very nice and quiet – even peaceful
Different style of image
an old overgrown shrine
markers and reminders
I loved this one especially
Superstition runs high
And the miniature persons are all clothed
In another temple – on Shikoku, where you find many of them as it is kind of „spiritual heartland of Japan“ – the temples are quite different again. Most caring for pilgrims, doing the temple tour (1750 km)
I loved the frog…
Even more these sculptures
The cool thing about Janapese spiritual scultpure – completely different to the European approach – is a kind of wittiness and „real-life“ of the images. A bit like El Greco in his paintings… super-imposing attributes which describe the person
There has to be a big bell in every temple
And statues..
Well, some work needs to be done as well 😉
Very often the smaller figurines are a beautiful thing to watch as well
A typical small ghost house (for the ancestors)
Clean when you enter
Lovely huge trees
Combining existing and new
Tree support…
Before the main hall
Down the dojis to the shrine
Another guardian
Wishes
Every kind – all written on some piece of wood (and mostly burned later on)
Memories…
Praying
Reflection
So what is it: spirituality or superstition ;))
Gorgeous photos as always, thank you for sharing!
