We have seen quite some temples before, yet this one beats all the others by being the most chapotic, cluttered and interesting by far. It is only around 10 km from Matsuyama, near Dogo and has a very unique, almost Chinese feeling.
No idea why and how, it stil lis an impression of well intended chaos and deliberate anarchy which makes this temple so charming…
It starts well enough
The usual shoes
and the veeery big ones
which are loaded wiht 1 YEN pieces
Smaller inner shrines
nice bridges
And now it starts getting more bizarre
very graphic
This is still usual to hang requests alongside the fences
Yet not so cluttered and colourful
Veeeeery colourful
A more cartoon like character
and more prayers and devotions
burning the incense
everything is prepared – just like your incense sticks and stick them in the sand
things are torn, run down
used and dropped
again the requests
and the murals with the lamps before – very Chinese style
So totally non-Japanese with its riot of colours
and torn things
again the cartoon like masks
over-exaggerating attributes
Here comes the weirdest part – a walkway through the rock
inside the cave
all along to the other side
again a funny mix of objects
Hello…
More classical symbols
some kind of remains of a procession I assume
a kind of graveyard
with Indian influences
and the typical white elephant
very tropical atmosphere
Colours, plants
everywhere
and the tired pilgrim
Finally the guardian dragon
