Walking is among the nicest things you can do here and this way you see quite a lot of interesting stuff
As it didn’t rain for some time (well, 2 days to be precise ) the mud started to break already
Mushrooms (which you find plentiful here) require trees for a symbiosis. So most people wonder where the trees are – here… Mini birches Actually this is a complete tree (just small and tiny). You are literally walking through a birch forest.
different clay and stone combinations
We called it “escaping worms”
even more and bigger
another stone rose
The river has cut deeply through the volcano cones
Here a panorama of the lower stretch
and the gorge once more for the dimensions
Have a nice cup of tea (lemongrass + ginger are our favourites at the moment ) to keep you warm and help flush the patty, we make for hiking, down.
The cores of the volcanoes remain – here only the magma channel
On our way back they had continued building the road and as this involves putting lava at the bottom layer it is quite soft…
Far too soft for a camper actually, so we got stuck (like the bus before us as well… and this was a 4×4 highland bus). So we got help from the fellows
And they pulled us through. Tipping is usually done by means of a bottle of beer or two, so he was really delighted (and we as well )
Due to the extensive rain the days before lakes were quite flooded – too much for some things
The birds didn’t mind
Magnificent views towards the next fjord and the mountains
The cap was just perfect
Approaching Myvatn from the North
A part of the road (over the mountains) is still a dirt road (but more or less ok)
endless desert
with some green patches (lucerne )
One day here will be a lush meadow again (or for the first time)
Finally Myvatn as a panorama
