Our next part of the journey took as to Ásbyrgi where the river which cascades down Dettifoss makes it way towards the sea. Here giant floods during volcanic eruptions which melted the icecaps took place and carved these canyons. The interesting thing is that what you still can see is mostly the inner core of volcanoes…
Yet to get there you have to cross some real bad part of the road…
Fun driving with a camper
The “normal” road
And here the gorge (one part) – the whole system is around 45 km long
lava in columns (vertical wall)
forming wonderful flowers
and structures
stone roses
Bizarre
Waterfall of stone
quite long…
spring in the meadow
