On a fine day like the one we had the whole hike was just amazing. Lovely temperatures of around 15°, sunshine for almost 22h and no midges… What to expect more? Well, sometimes I would love to have a word with the writers of the hiking descriptions – especially when they mention „easy stroll“ and „just a walk in the park“… Where do parks cross 2 times 350m altitude? And boggy terrain…? Well, in the end it was just lovely and we enjoyed it.
Starting from Borgarfjörður you leave the „main“ road into the mointains on an old 4×4 track
winter is still present…
and volcanic activity (well, long ago, but visible)
a very nice track, indeed
after crossing the path the valley of Brunavik on the other side (abandoned since 1945) offers sublime views
and the coastline is wonderful as well
already back on the other pass (the old main road between the villages)
Higher and higher it goes
until you reach the climax
and can enjoy the view of the other side again
back to the campsite the rock formations are just beautiful
and the sunset deserves a top mark on the „Kitsch list“
