As we have to be in England next week, we decided to give the North a chance and catch an occasional glimpse of the famous Lake District in a time where not too many other people do the same… At least those were our intentions, yet reality always strikes back and despite being at the end of winter, having not not too nice weather and everything being on the quite expensive side, there were loads of people around. I wouldn’t like to experience this area in real summer… Anyhow, we stay in Lancaster and took the car to go to Grassmere (which is around Windermere – the unofficial capital of the Lake District).
The good thing is that as soon as you leave the main track and go a bit up, the road starts to vanish behind you as well as the people…
It was quite frosty – 4° at daytime, around 0 at night
Beautiful ice
There is a large cave as well which made a nice background for pictures
Quite large indeed…
Especially the tree at the entrance was a beautiful scene
Most of the area is obviously volcanic…
and plants have a tough time at the moment
Plants? Humans as well – chilly…
The scenery is nice
and looks quite ragged
Admiration of the peace
Lake “whatever” at the bottom
Getting down was a bit trickier
These stones are nice in summer but like slush in winter…
In the evening we were not sure which one to take:
Kings arms, Queens Head, Duke’s Shoulders, what next??
Waiting just for us…
Ok, time to go home – tomorrow is another day
