In the Mountains, Midsummer-Night and Back again

So, we are back to Barcelona and it is time to finish this episode of the blog for this time…

Four days ago (time flies…) we hiked up the valley of the lakes in Somiedo to reach the final lake

Even cows must be body-building in these mountainous environment; never ever have we seen so muscular cows. What a lovely meat that must produce… Engel

The way was in the valley this time and nicely moving up and up…

The next day we drove, after being washed out from Somiedo, towards Ordessa, which we didn’t reach in the end as it just got too late… So we stayed the night on a large, rather non-desript campground in Bielsa. If you like to be watched and investigate other peoples equipment (cars, motorhomes, behaviour, etc.) you are at the right place – if not… Drive on… The only really remarkable thing is their showers – beautiful, well equipped and a joy to use. Yet for 35 € (2 person + camper) this is a rather steep fun…

Camper look & feel (no – no more smell Zwinkerndes Smiley)

Yet finally we made it up the valley of Ordessa (not the main one but the side valley to the left of the main entrance) where at the very end a large meadow with a very rustic and down to earth campground is – just the way we love it Smiley Shade until 11:00 (mountains…) and peaceful nights… Perfect!

On the way – in the valley – we had to stop for some very nice flowers / shrubs

This one is very specific to the region

After setting up the camper we made a small hike where we even found strawberries

Yet the problem was that the rain, which held back all the time, now came pouring down…

Wet, wet, wet…

That’s the way to experience midsummer-night (ok, in the Latvian tradition it’s 23 – 24.06…)

And finally we were even able to do some further walking after the sun broke through again Smiley

And barbeque… Finally we had it all – rain, beer, fire, barbeque and… – no mosquitos Smiley

As the weather was supposed to turn sour again next day we decided to leave a day earlier to get back and so just made a final small walk on the way back just to see some rather fancy people doing a trip down the river… Each it’s own…

  1. Very energetic blog, I enjoyed that a lot. Perhaps there is a part 2? egekgfdgeeec

    • For sure… We love the area and will go back from time to time. Usually in off-season time as otherwise you have to crawl over the other hikers. Just some 50 km to the South (Guara) it’s much nicer and more peaceful – yet a totally different landscape
