As we decided on a very short-notice to go to Riga for the Songfest 2018 here are some impressions which we discovered. As the city was full of tourists and the weather somehow strange (hot, humid but overcast) and me very busy working alongside the concerts, we didn’t spend too much time outside…
These old lamps at the parlament are always nice
A house built into the old city wall
The „Swedish Gate“ of the old wall
Oh boy, how boring can a dog’s day be?
Back alley views
In need of some renovation (like our house…)
Very typical art nouveau entrance
I love these columns
nice balcony – nice view…
and one of the lesser known and liked inhabitants of the old town…
you can find these sculptures everywhere – just look for them 🙂
A dream for a plaster maker…
The guild hall (now a symphonic concert venue)
A freemason building with all the isignia
and the lonely wolf on the roof – one of our favourites
behind Dome Square in a side street with the view towards the town hall (newly built in 2001…)
Blissfull offerings
again behind Dome Square
The Russian Theatre
Very classic style
progressing towards Dome Square through the smaller back alleys
Well, when you have old buildings there is always the need to renovate constantly…
The Italian Embassy (since the very start of the Republic) with the man and the globe…
You can read that!
Summer evening in the park
A very special beaver – living in the foundation of a stone bridge in the city centre…
Freedom monument
Back to the Russian Theatre a young boy was playing
under the auspicious guard
of the two watchmen
and he was really good
very focussed, very concentrated and very skilled!
Again the old guild hall (both sides actually – one is the old, one the „new“ guild hall)
The Reader on the Roof – another of our favourites
The old Stock Exchange – they are actually still trading and have 6 (in words six) listed companies, yet most of the building is used for restaurants, etc.
Peace at last…
very nice glass windows in Dome Church
