During our visit to Tainan we had a glimpse at Anping, which is considered „the absolute must-see“ (according to the travel-book authors). Well, being there it was not too interesting with tourists everywhere and every old house converted to a shop selling candy or food or souvenirs.
So we strolled around – rather disappointed – and by accident found this fotographic marvel – the old graveyard…
It is more like a City for the Dead spreading out between the cities of the living
Small houses, neglect, dirt, worship – everything
Over time graves are not well maintained
Some are overgrown
and some close to breakdown (escape route…?)
the shrines for the dead are omni-present
just like real life…
with ovens to burn devotions for the deceased (needed on the other side…)
a fairly groovy atmosphere – pretty much like a Tim Burton film
Different perspective
No real path, no way, wild dogs
the approach from the other side
waiting in line (who will be the next one…)
A guardian…
Cleaning up is a mandatory task as well
