Kings Lynn was the start of this day… Grey, wet, -1°, freezing – brrrr…
Everything in fog
Just perfect (to stay in a warm cafe and sip a cappuccino)…
Looks a bit like Riga as well
Old harbour areas (Kings Lynn used to be 2nd largest port in the 15th century – not validated… )
frozen water
Yet some species like the humidity
When you step through the main gates there is another world in the backyards
Everything is old
more backyards…
Then following the Norfolk coastline to Castle Rising – you cannot get more English
Very proper, very organized
Spring seems to be there – yet still a bit suspended at the moment
Again there are always benefactors…
What a nice entrance
A mix of various styles and epochs is present in the church
Regardless – it was very peaceful
Soon afterwards was some marshland where tidal flooding is common which seems to please the birds
The whole area can be waterlogged when the tide is coming
A channel for tidal water
reeds
closer…
lunch was taken in an old inn which used to be very stylish
The inner was really nice and cosy – especially with the weather outside
Looks like a decent start
Shepherd’s pie – this time with a real bread crust; not the typical fatty substance around the inner part. Delicious…
From here on the day started to descent – somehow the whole area is too cultivated; no “real” nature anymore, just farmland… Quite interesting, yet after the 10th village with brown brick houses it looses some appeal
