The small B&B where we staid in Sao Jorge was very nice and peaceful – nestled alongside other houses in the harbour area. This here is a view to the back at the next house with some fig trees around
Just the one thing which totally turned us off was the horrible art done by the owner. We were just lucky not to have any of these “masterpieces” in our rooms. Imagine my shame when I took the images and a person strolling by assumed I admired them…
Kitsch as Kitsch can…
To better explore the island we drove to the North (which is just 8 km away anyhow… ) and here the coastline is even steeper and rougher
Beautiful prime forest
With small enchanted gardens in between
The roads are winding alongside the old trees
And Pico can be assumed (you can see the shape ) in the distance
Here the main characteristic of Sao Jorge – the Fajas – can be seen. Small strips of broken down rock where the first settlers started to live.
As it was a thoroughly hot day we opted for a swim down in the Fajas…
Getting in is easy – here gravity helps – getting out is the problem… Lift yourself with the rope from the slippery wall…
One very good thing on the islands is that almost in every public place there are toilets and like here even sometimes showers!
This would be the normal pool – as the waves were very tame it has turned green… Brrr… no way swimming in there!
Beautiful rocks
And amazing water
The whole coastline is gorgeous
In a small fish restaurant we had our dinner – a bit overpriced and not so good, but a change anyhow…
The weather is changing…
Farewell to the place with cinnamon liqueur. So sweet your teeth stick together
