Ah, I am lacking behind dramatically… Still documenting Sao Jorge, while we are already close to packing in Pico, but that’s the way of documentation – always behind
These sights of Pico are now already a memory as the big mountain is covered in clouds all the time – yet from Sao Jorge it was beautifully visible all the time.
Some local fruits I was told the name of but with the pronunciation of Portuguese being a bit different to our pattern I somehow gave up… Very often they have words similar to the ones we know, yet with a twist in writing – not speaking. So e.g. yam (the root) is called ingame in written form, yet pronounced nearly the same…
Anyhow – it looks nice
And one more image for the niceness of it
On our trip to the high country we detected an old smoker
Inside a volcanic channel
Stretching for some 500 m
It is really amazing how fast nature reclaims lost territory with a bit of moisture
In the highland you can always see another island (around are Pico, Faial, Terceira and Graciosa)
Developers…
In 50 years here will be forest…
Clouds are always moving around at 900 m
And they are flowing in over the ridge
Milk is growing
the dragon tail of Pico
The typical caldera lake…
A very special plant for us… A kind of balm which smells very nicely.
As it is growing in abundance and everywhere you principally walk through it from time to time begin immersed in a sweet fragrance
Another interesting thing we have only seen here. Semi-mobile milking stations. As the farmers leave their cows up in the hills they have this containers on wheels where the pump is installed and the cows walk through being relieved of their milk in the progress… Looks very much like an inverse drive-through
